Abstract
The aim of this research is to find types of flouting maxim such as maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of manner, and maxim of relevance. in the movie A Man Called Otto by Marc Foster in 2022, to find types through the dialogue delivered by the main characters in the movie. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, while data is collected by observing words or dialogue that contain flouting of the maxim in the movie "A Man Called Otto". This research applies theory from Grice (1975) to analyse types of maxim flouting, and the strategies used in maxim flouting. Based on the results of the selected data, the maxim flouting’s found were 15 for maxim quantity, then 1 for maxim quality, 6 for maxim manner, and also 8 for maxim relevance. So, the total number of maxim flouting in the main character's dialogue in this movie is 30. All sentences chosen in this research are words that are easy for readers to understand.
