Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and forms of patriarchy in the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery and to discover how resistances against patriarchy depicted in the novel based on the values of feminism. This study uses the theory of patriarchy of Sylvia Walby and feminism approach of Rosemarie Tong. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this study, and data was collected by reading the novel and taking notes of remarkable events. Through analyzing the data, the writer discovered that among six structures, three structures of patriarchy are present in the novel. The structures are paid work, household production, culture, sexuality, violence, and state. The two forms of patriarchy which consist of public and private patriarchy are found in the novel. In addition, feminism values as the resistance against patriarchy are also obtained. The values consist of equal liberty, equal education, and political participation.
