Abstract

This research provides an explanation of how to determine the relationship between vocabulary mastery and essay writing skills in the fourth semester students of STBA JIA in the 2021/2022 academic year. It is a quantitative research, especially correlation analysis, conducted from February until August 2022 with a population at this level of 46 students, and the sample to be taken is 36 students. During implementation, the instruments to collect data were a vocabulary test to measure vocabulary mastery and a writing test to measure essay writing skills, which were distributed to members of the sample population. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation formula is used as a data analysis technique with a correlation value of 0.395 which is greater than 0.05. The result showed that there was a significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and essay writing skills. The correlation is a strong with a coefficient of determination of 7.9%, which means that vocabulary mastery affects essay writing skills. Meanwhile, 2.1% is influenced by other variables.
