Abstract
The purpose of the research is to identify the characteristics and describe the implementation of online classroom at the eight-grade in SMPN 32 Bekasi. This research is a case study especially an instrumental case where the researcher described a phenomenon appeared in details using several instruments. This research applies the theory of Stake and Ary for case studies types, theory of Yin for case studies purpose, the theory of Lowenthal for online classroom characteristics, and theory of Belawati for online classroom types. The researcher conducted the study by: 1) defining and designing the case; 2) preparing, collecting and analysing the data; and 3) analysing and concluding the case. The instruments used to collect the data are interview, direct observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The data were presented referring to the result of instruments then analyzed by describing the characteristic of the online classroom (context, media, and teachers-students) and the implementation of online classroom (analyzing teacher, student, and educational institution). In the end of the research, it is concluded that the characteristics of online classroom are well-adapted even though class size, communication, student collaboration, and student diversity is not developed. Moreover teachers, students, and educational institution have tried to implement online classroom well yet improvement are necessary.
