Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discover the masculine traits that existed in Achilles, a legendary Greek warrior in Troy (2004) film. The study uses qualitative method with descriptive narrative analysis, while the data is obtained by watching and observing scene by scene as well as dialogues related to masculinity traits. This study uses the theory of masculinity proposed by Janet Saltzman Chafetz and the theory from Brett and Kate McKay for the types of masculinity. Based on the selected data, Achilles reflects masculinity traits as physical (5 data), sexual (3 data), emotion (2 data), intellectual (3 data), personal (3 data), interpersonal (4 data), and function (1 datum). He reflects those masculinity traits, although the emotional side of Achilles is contrary to the theory used. Achilles stands out on the leadership side as a man, so it is categorized as a Warrior type. All the masculinity traits reflected in Achilles character are the result of many battles and anguish faced. In short, Achilles is a masculine man. It is reflected by his actions and words.
