Abstract
This study aims to analyze the intimate language style and its characters as well as identify the function of utterances in the film Father of the Bride. Joos' theory is used to analyze intimate language style characters and Holmes' theory to identified speech functions. This research used descriptive qualitative methodology. Meanwhile, the data taken are utterances related to intimate language style. The result of this study, the researcher found there are 97 data, there are 58 extractions, 22 utterances of addressee character, 10 data of family relationship and 5 data of close relationship character, and 2 data of jargon. In addition, the results of the speech function found by researcher were 87 data. Expressive function is the highest frequency function with 41 data, followed by referential function with 29 data, directive function with 10 data, and the least frequent function is pathic function with 7 data.
