Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the forms of metaphor, personification and hyperbole in the lyrics of Meghan Trainor's song on the album Takin It Back and then to analyze the meaning of the figurative forms contained in the song. This research used a qualitative descriptive method, while data were obtained by reading song lyrics and observing words, phrases, or clauses that contain metaphors, personifications, and hyperbolic forms in Meghan Trainor's songs. This study applies the theory of figurative forms from Abrams (2013), then the theory on metaphorical forms from Richard as quoted in Abrams (2013), next is the theory on personification forms using Hamilton (2002), last is hyperbolic forms using the theory from Claudia Claridge (2011). The results of this study found 4 data of metaphor, 1 data of personification and 25 data of hyperbole. With the following percentages: 13.3% metaphor, 3.4% personification and 83.3% hyperbole.
