Abstract

The aim of this research is to find and understand how presuppositions presupposed propositions, and to find types of presuppositions that appear in The Batman movie by Matt Reeves. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, while the data were collected by watching the movie and observing the utterances that contains propositions, and type of presuppositions in “The Batman” movie by Matt Reeves. This research used the theory of George Yule to analyze the propositions and presuppositions. Based on the result of representative data, the propositions found in the movie are 52 and all of the type of presupposition are appeared in 30 data. All 30 data consisted of all types of presupposition, with 7 existential presupposition, 1 factive presupposition, 3 non-factive presupposition, 5 lexical presupposition, 8 structural presupposition, and 6 counterfactual presupposition. All of the utterances chosen in this research are utterances that match the criteria of being proposition and one of types of presupposition. The way presupposition presupposes the proposition is matched with the criteria of types of presupposition.
