Abstract
This research about correlation between reading skill and writing ability at eighth grade of SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan, intended to obtain more significant evidence and results regarding skills in reading and writing ability in eighth grade. The population of this study was all eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan which totaled 440 students. Only 30 students were taken as samples from this study using the non-probability sampling technique using quota sampling. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0, this study it shows that there is a significant relationship between reading skill and writing ability at students of SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. The results of this study with a correlation value of 0.482. In this study, it was found that the coefficient of determination was 23,23%, which means that reading skills contributed 23,23% to the writing ability of eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. While other factors (76,77%) are influenced by other variables that have not been examined by research. It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, so, there is a significant correlation between reading skills and writing ability.
