Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find the types of diphthongs in the album Doo-Woops & Hooligan by Bruno mars and to identify song lyrics to find out the pronunciation and then look for diphthongs in the song lyrics. This study applies a qualitative method, while this data was obtained by perusing and observing the lyrics of each song containing diphthongs in the album Doowoops & Hooligans. This study applies Hayes' theory (2009) to find out phonology and pronunciation using Odden's theory (2005) to find out the diphthongs contained in song lyrics using Roach's theory (2009). Based on data that has been analyzed, the writer find a type of closed diphthong and open diphthong. Furthermore, the writer discovered several types of diphthongs, including the diphthong /ei/ made up the largest percentage at 36.3%, followed by /ai/ at around 23.3%. Additionally, /әʊ/ accounted for 23.3%, /eә/ contributed 10%, and /aʊ/ made up 6.6% of the total.
