Abstract

The aim of this research is to find the types of illocutionary acts in SpongeBob SquarePants season 7, 5 episodes were chosen as the object data of the research. This research uses qualitative descriptive method, the data collection is taken by watching the selected episodes and identify all of the dialogues that contains illocutionary acts in “SpongeBob SquarePants Season 7”. This research applies Searle’s theory in order to classify the types of illocutionary acts. Based on the result of the analysis, the researcher found 37 types of illocutionary act found in the cartoon, 10 directives illocutionary act, 15 representatives illocutionary act, 3 commissives illocutionary act, 7 expressives illocutionary act, and 2 declaratives illocutionary act.
