Abstract

The aim of this research is to the analyze hierarchy of needs of one of main character in Cast Away movie. The analysis focus on the character namely Chuck Noland, an employee of FedEx Company crashes in the Pacific Ocean when going for a Malaysian assignment. Being the sole survivor of the plane crash, he drifts to an isolated island. Once Chuck’s physical needs are met, his biggest struggle involves his emotional and psychological health. He must resist desperation and not reach the point of cracking up. The object of the research is to show characteristic of Chuck Noland. Specifically, the aim of the research is to show the main character in fulfilling his needs viewed frow Abraham Maslow’s theory. The writer employs qualitative descriptive method by which collected data by dialogue and the picture taken from the movie. The results shows that Chuck Noland as main character can fulfill all of the five levels of need.
