Abstract
This thesis is discussing symbolism found in novella The Little Prince. As the object of this research, The Little Prince is a famous novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, published in 1943, tells about humans with all aspects of their lives seen from the point of view of a child. This novella has lots of symbols because the author of this novella uses symbolism to represent his ideas through the characters he creates, the actions taken by the characters, and also other objects he conveys in the story. Two questions arise as a problem in this thesis, namely: 1) what symbols are there from this novella 2) How do each symbol represent and represent its meaning in the story in The Little Prince? To answer the problems in this thesis, the writer applied a qualitative method with a literature study as a method of research. The writer uses several theories of symbols in the literature presented by Kennedy and Gioia, DiYanni, Perrine, Muller and William, Pickering and Hoeper are used in this thesis because this thesis will discuss symbols in more depth and their theories help the writer to identify and find out the meaning of symbol in novella The Little Prince. The author uses the novella The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and several other books to gather information about literature and its elements. The symbols found in this novel total of 18 symbols. They consist of 10 symbolic characters, 2 symbolic actions, 5 symbolic objects, and 1 symbolic place All the symbols that found in this novella have a deep meaning and they are related to one another so the plot is attractive for anyone who reads it
