Abstract

This research is about a psycholinguistics field of the autistic child in A Boy Called Po movie. This study aims to explain (1) the kinds of features of the autistic individual, (2) the kinds of language disorders and (3) the kinds of cognitively responses that represented by the autistic main character in A Boy Called Po movie. This research uses a qualitative method with the author as the main instrument. The data source of this research is movie of A Boy Called Po. The data objects are the utterances in the words form, phrases form, clauses form and sentences form in the autistic main character’s responses in giving feedback to his interlocutors when they do communication and interaction. The utterances of the autistic main character contain and reflect the phenomenon of the features of the autistic individual, language disorders and cognitively responses by the autistic individual. The grand theories of this research that used by the author are Steinberg (2006), Carroll (2008), Aarons (1999), Agt (2011) and Rothwell (2000). In this research, there are 38 data analyzed by the author. The result of this research shows that the autistic main character has 24 (63,15%) Cognitively Irrelevant Responses, 3 (7,90%) Cognitively Relevant Responses and 11 (28,95%) Cognitively Disruptive and Socially Inappropriate Responses. Furthermore, the author found 34 Receptive Language Disorder cases and 4 Expressive Language Disorder cases. From this result, it can be concluded that the autistic main character has difficulties when he does communication and interaction in giving the responses to his interlocutors.
