Abstract

This study aims to analyze more detail about types of thematic roles. The object used in this study is short stories The Great Big Treasury by Beatrix Potter. The theory used to analyze types of thematic roles in the theory of Saeed (2016). Furthermore, the method used in this study is the analysis descriptive qualitative method. The process in analyzing the data are: (1) collecting the data, (2) analyzing the data, (3) discussing the data, and finally (4) concluding the data. This research led to the conclusion that from the thirty data analyzed show that fifty-nine of eight types of thematic roles in The Great Big Treasury by Beatrix Potter there are, Agent (34%), Experiencer (6.8%), Patient (3.40%), Theme (1.6%), Source (8.50%), Goal (25.50%), Location (18.6%), and Stimulus (1.6%). In brief, the researcher found there are many roles of a figure who does a lot of action. From any action performed by the role there is a purpose of the action. Thus, agents and goals appear more often in sentences.
