Abstract

This study, titled The Analysis of Cathy Caruth's Trauma Concept Portrayed in Marilyn Monroe in the 'Blonde' Movie (2020). The aims of this study is to examines the portrayal of trauma in Marilyn Monroe's character. The research investigates the intricate portrayal of trauma in the movie, using Cathy Caruth's trauma theory (1996) as the main framework, along with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach to examine how Caruth's views of trauma, namely the notions of delayed reactions and unspeakable wounds, are evident in Monroe's character. The findings reveal that the movie depicts trauma through delayed responses for instances, flashbacks, hallucinations, arousal, and avoidance. The unresolved and unexpressed traumas finally led to Monroe's sad death, highlighting the significant influence of her past traumatic experiences.
