Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the subtitling strategies and the readability level of Lockwood & Co. movie. A qualitative descriptive strategy was used in this study. Data was obtained by watching the movie. Gottlieb's theory for subtitling strategies and Nababan's readability parameters were used in this study. The writer found 40 data translated with subtitling strategies. The result shows the first type of subtitle strategies is expansion with a percentage of 2,5% of the total data. The second strategy which is more often appears is paraphrase with 27,5% of total data. The third strategy is transfer with a percentage of 12,5%. The fourth strategy is imitation with a percentage 22,5%. Transcription is the fifth strategy that appears with a percentage 7,5%. The sixth is decimation strategy that shown with a percentage 25%. The last is deletion with a percentage 2,5%. As for the other three strategies, namely dislocation, condensation, and resignation are not found in episodes 1-2 of this movie. The readability level assessed by two validators, for score 3 with a percentage 90% and score 2 with a percentage 10%.
