Abstract

This study aims to describe deixis and translation techniques in the novel Dari Kota Apel ke The Big Apple which translates to From The City Of Apple to the Big Apple in English. The writer used the theory of Yule's to describe the types of deixis, and Hoed's theory to identify the types of translation techniques. This study used a qualitative method. The data were taken from the words and phrase related to deixis. From the 67 data found, 42 data for person deixis consist of data for first person deixis, 12 data for second person deixis, and 8 data for third person deixis. Then, 15 data for spatial deixis, and 10 data for temporal deixis. In translation technique, out of 67 data, there were 43 data for official translation, 9 data for transposition, 8 data for modulation, 4 data for cultural equivalent, and 3 data for not given equivalent. The deixis that appear most frequently are in the first person deixis category. In addition, most of them are found from official translation techniques.
