Abstract

This research aims to discuss caste discrimination portrayed in The White Tiger Movie 2021 by Aravind Adiga. This is a sociological literary analysis that specifically applied several concepts of Karl Marx’s (1844) to argue the caste system that still occur based on the ownership of property owned by the capitalists. During the preparation of this study, the researcher used qualitative method in findings the idea of classes, class struggle, and class consciousness as the main theory. The research findings were that seven data points identified as the idea of classes, six data points were identified class struggle and class consciousness was found in twelve data points. This study demonstrates that the class struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat portrayed in The White Tiger movie is viewed as a mechanism for criticizing the capitalist system as well as the Indian caste system. Adiga indicates the movie as a representation of discrimination based on caste towards Balram. As a proletarian, Balram decided to commit fraud and murder in order to earn money. Therefore, this movie shows Balram’s character as someone who successfully resisting this caste system.
