Abstract

This study aims to find similarities and differences in simple sentences in the past in English which are commonly called simple past tense and simple sentences in the past in Arabic which are usually called fi'il madhi in a short story book “ تارماغم وشيم by لاصح et al” which can be analyzed with contrastive field analysis. To achieve this the researcher uses the theory of English grammar from comrie and Arabic grammar from Bima. Also, Johanseen's contrastive analysis theory. As a result of the representative data, there are 6 differences and 2 similarities in grammatical structure. The differences between the two languages are in sentence patterns (sentence, structure), (verbs), (nouns), (written) and (total in general). Based on the data, it was found that there are more differences in the two languages than there are similarities
