Abstract

This research aims to see if a psyche of a video game character like Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed franchise is able to be analyzed using theories of psychoanalysis. In order to achieve this, the researcher use Freud’s Theory of Psychoanalysis that focuses on the 3 parts of human mind Id, Ego, and Super Ego and Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial development stages to see if said character shows any significant changes in their motivation and how they would react to certain crucial moments and how they develop throughout their lifespan. In order to achieve this the researcher played the game and watch the cutscene then screenshot some of the crucial moments that could be used as a data and analyzed said data using the theories mentioned prior. The researcher found that Ezio was first mainly used his Id to solve his problem but gradually matured and use his Ego more often, and his life development was considered to be a successful one. The researcher believes that there are many of video game characters out there that has a more complex writing that is worth analyzed and proof that a character in a narrative that was put into a unusual media to convey a story is possible to be analyzed
