Abstract

This study aims to find the categories and the positions of adjunct adverbial, to identify a head and modifier in a word, a phrase, or a clause and to know the tree diagram of the structure in a realization of adjunct adverbial. This research applied qualitative research method, which the data were collected by reading and marking and taking notes to analyze the adjunct adverbial. The data source of the research is a novel from The Proposal. The main theories of this research are a theory of Hasselgard (2010) to classified the categories and the positions of adjunct adverbial, a theory of Roberts (2011) to analyze the head and modifier, and a theory of Carnie (2013) to know the tree diagram structure of adjunct adverbial. The result of the research shows that in a novel The Proposal consists of 3 categories, 3 positions, 1 realization in the 20 data finding. Percentage of the categories of adjunct adverbial consist of Time Adjunct 18,7%, Manner Adjunct 37,6%, and Adjunct of Degree and Extent 43,7%. Percentage of the positions of adjunct adverbial consist of Initial Position (I) 10%, Medial Position is divided into three, which are M1 (10%), M2 (5%), M3 (15%), and End Position (E) 60%. Lastly, the percentage of the realizations of adjunct adverbial is only find in an adverb phrase (100%).
