Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the categories and classes of temporal conjunctions in the pre-flight safety videos produced by SkyTeam member airlines and to assess the sentences' coherences as a result. This study used the descriptive qualitative approach, and the data were gathered by watching and noting the recordings of the pre-flight safety videos where the utterances contain the temporal conjunction. For categorization and classification, this research employs Halliday and Hasan's theory, and for coherences, Oshima and Hogue's theory. As the result of the data, there are 24 external (82,76%) and 5 internal (17,24%) kinds of temporal conjunction in the videos. The events being discussed frequently follow a sentence with one of the temporal conjunction categories examined in this study. Sequential, preceding, immediate, interrupted, specific, durative, terminal, punctiliar, simple, conclusive, and present are all classifications for these temporal conjunctions. Based on the data, the temporal conjunctions give the sentences their coherence.
