Abstract

This aims of this study are to determine the categories of signs and to know the meaning of the signs as well as the reasons. This study discusses the types of signs on objects and the meanings of iconic, index and symbol of the fashion appearance of the casts in the “The Hunger Games” movie which are reviewed semiotically. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with Peirce's semiotic theory approach, which is a sign as an icon, index and symbol with triadic representament, object and interpretant. The research steps include: (1) watching a movie, (2) looking for signs found in the style of dress of the players in the film The Hunger Games then capturing images, (3) determining the type of marks found in the dress style in the image, (4) analysing the signs found, and (5) Giving conclusions on the results of the analysis. The study was conducted using 20 data in the form of film fragments found in the film The Hunger Games. From the results of the study found 31 symbols, 5 icons and 3 indexes
