Abstract
The aim of this research is to find 1) the kinds of subordinate conjunction written in the complex sentence in the “the Candy Country” short story 2) the function possess in the subordinate conjunction written in the complex sentences in the “the Candy Country” short story. This research method is qualitative research. The main theory used by this research is from Delahunty and Garvey and supported by Chaer about the function of the subordinate conjunction. In their book Delahunty and Garvey gave three types of subordinate conjunctions and its function based on the subordinate clause it introduces, namely (1) subordinate adverbial conjunction, (2) subordinate nominal conjunction, (3) subordinate relative conjunction. And the theoretical support by Chaer he gave some function based on the subordinate adverbial conjunction, namely (1) time, (2) place, (3) manner, (4) reason or cause, (5) result, (6) comparison, (7) purpose, (8) condition, (9) concession. From the analysis process, the total data collected in this study is 41 data. The results is vary in the types of the subordinate conjunction but the most exist in subordinate adverbial conjunction it is 35 data. The next is followed by subordinate nominal conjunction 2 data. Next, subordinate relative conjunction 4 data. Then the percentage of SAC of time dominated it is 58,5%, SAC manner and SRC 9,8%, SAC reason or cause and SNC 4,9%, SAC purpose and concession 2,4%, and SAC condition 7,3% that is the result of function of subordinate conjunction written in the complex sentence syntactically found in the “the Candy Country” short story by Louisa May Alcoot.
