Abstract

The aims of this research is to describe the situational that happened from the utterance in The Toy Story 3 Movie, to identify what is the form of the commisive utterance in the movie, to find out what is the intention of commissive utterances that exist the most. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data is the movie entitled “The Toy Story 3” by Lee Unkrich and its movie script. To achieve the aims of the research, the data are analyzed using Kreidler and Cruse theory to identify the type of the commissive utterances, and Halliday and Hasan theory to describe the context of situational in each commissive utterances. The research shows that the most types of commissives acts that appear are promising. It can be seen that the most data found are commissive acts of promising (38%). The second is commissive acts of offering (17%). The third is commissive acts of refusing and threatening (15%). The fourth are commissive acts of agreeing (10%). The fifth are commissive acts of volunteering (5%). And the last are commissive acts of vowing, swearing, pledging, undertaking, and contracting, which do not exist (0%).
