Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the depiction of the main female character in the novel The Holy Woman by Qaisra Shahraz through a gynocritics perspective and to describe the values of feminism shown by the female character. This study uses the gynocritics theory of Elaine Showalter and the theory of Rosemarie Tong for a feminist approach. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques using documentation techniques. The data analysis technique uses content analysis techniques by analyzing the text in the novel. The results of data analysis on gynocritics studies in the novel The Holy Woman by Qaisra Shahraz obtained results in the form of writing from four types of perspectives, namely: women's body, women's language, women's psyche, and women's culture. In addition, feminism values are also found which are depicted through the main female characters, namely equal education, equal liberty, and equal economic opportunity.
