Abstract

The aim of this research is to find hyperbole language in a song lyric from One Direction and to identify the forms of hyperbole in the lyrics of the song and then the connotative meaning contained in hyperbole language will be analyzed through a semantic approach. This study applies a qualitative descriptive method, while the data is obtained by reading song lyrics and observing words, phrases, or clauses that contain hyperbole language in One Direction's songs. This study applies the theory of Claudia Claridge (2011) to hyperbolic forms. This result of the research found 5 forms, they are 40% single word, 33,33% clausal, 13,33% phrasal, and 6,67% for comparison and repetition. From the result, the writer concludes that the forms of hyperbole which exist the most is single word.
