Abstract

Pauses and slips of tongue can be experienced by everyone and in any situation. A person who experiences pauses and slips of tongue actually does not have problems with communication tools. It is just that pause and slips of tongue relate to language and thoughts to decide what ideas to convey in spoken language. This study aims to describe the pauses and slips of the tongue that occurred in the final debate between Donald J. Trump and Joe Biden. The data collection method is done by listening and recording. The data analysis method is presented in the form of a description by describing the types and causes of pause and slips of tongue that occur by the speakers. The result of this research is that there are two kinds of pauses and four types of slips of the tongue. Pause and slips of the tongue is caused by limited time, speaking spontaneously, nervous, habit, hesitates, and lack of knowledge
