Abstract
The aim of this research is to understand how words or sentences convey meaning in everyday situation of speech or writing. It is very crucial to know how language could be understood, interpreted, stated, and processed by language user. This reflects the meaning of words associate with another words and the condition beyond the language. It is also has to do with individual mental understanding of the speaker as stated by Leech. This research is about Associative Meaning Found in Ardhito Pramono Song Lyrics.The objective of this research were analyze the five types of associative meanings found in Ardhito Pramono song lyrics. The source of the data was taken from seventeen song lyrics of Ardhito Pramono. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. In this research, the data are analyzed using Geoffrey Leech theory to describe the type of associative meaning in each data. The result of this study shows that there are four types of associative meanings in Ardhito Pramono song lyrics they are connotative meaning, stylistic meaning, affective meaning and reflected meaning. Most of the lyrics used affective meaning that express the personal feelings or attitudes of the singer to the listener through those songs. Most of the songs explained about someone’s feeling, especially about feelings for someone who can never be together.
