Abstract
This study aims to find the types of facial expressions that appeared as a sign, and explain the movement of the Joker’s face in each type of facial expressions that found. The sources data in this research are from Joker Movie 2019. This study used qualitative descriptive method. The grand theory of this research is used semiotic approach from Ferdinand de Saussure which is supported by Ekman and Friesen theory which explained the characteristic facial movement. The results from the research conducted that there are several types of facial expression that exist in Joker movie 2019, where the facial expressions are focused on Joker as the main character at the movie. Kind of the facial expressions that performed by Joker as a sign, where the facial expression own and deliver meaning. From universal seven types of facial expressions, the writer found 5 facial expressions, they are: 1) Anger Expression with 8 occurances (36,4%), Happiness Expression with 8 occurances (36,4%), Sadness Expression with 4 occurances (18,2%), Surprise Expression with 1 occurance (4,5%), and Fear Expression with 1 occurance (4,5%). In the Joker Movie, Joker had tendecy to perform anger expressions because the movie obtained with Joker life which full of suffers.
