Abstract

The aims of this research is to search the phonemes assimilation that happened from the lyrics pronouncing in the three songs of Ed Sheeran. This research uses qualitative method. The source of the data are three songs of Ed Sheeran in Divide album entitled Shape of You, Save Myself, and Castle on the Hill. To achieve the aims of the research, the data are analyzed using Recasens theory to describe the kind of assimilation in each word or word boundaries as linking sound. The research shows 35 phonemes assimilation. The most data found are Regressive Assimilation which has 29 datum or equivalence with (82.86%).Then, Progressive Assimilation has 6 datum or equivalence with (17.14%). Besides that, the factor that influenced most those assimilation are nasal phoneme /n → m/ which has 14 datum or equivalence with (40%).
