Abstract

This research is made to find out meaning of modal verbs in The Most Beautiful Moment in Life the Notes 1 English Version written by Big Hit Entertainment. Besides, this research made to describe kinds of modality, its functions and meaning by the context. This study used qualitative research as method of the research. The writer used theory by F.R. Palmer (1979) as the main theory in analyzing the data; meanwhile the data of this research were taken from Big Hit Entertainment’s The Most Beautiful Moment in Life the Notes 1 English Version. As the result, the writer found three kinds of modality used in The Most Beautiful Moment in Life the Notes 1 written by Big Hit Entertainment consists of 14 data of epistemic modality or 33.6%, 5 data of deontic modality or 16.6%, and 11 data of dynamic modality or 36.6%. So it can be concluded that the most frequent kind of modality used in The Most Beautiful Moment in Life the Notes 1 English Version written by Big Hit Entertainment is dynamic modality refers to speaker’s ability.
