Abstract

This study aims to classify and determine the diphthongs and triphthongs found in the Taylor Swift song. The subject of this research is the lyrics of songs in the 1989 album sung by Taylor Swift. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The main theory of this research is 1). Peter Roach (1983), 2). David Odden (2005), 3). Carlos Gussenhoven and Haike Jacobs (2017) about phonology. The steps in analyzing data include (1). Selecting a song, (2).Listening to songs, (3). Reading the lyrics of the song, (4) Understanding which phonemes are included in the diphthong and triphthongs in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's song, (5). Understand and find reasons why the words in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's songs include diphthongs and triphthongs.The results of the research,all of this diphthong and triphthongs, the writer found 39 diphthong and 1 triphthong. 40 data was taken from 3 songs from a 1989 album by Taylor Swift. The first song produced a total of 28 data with percentage 70%. The second song produced a total of 7 data with percentage 17,5%. In addition, The third song produced a total of 5 data with percentage 12,5 %
