Abstract

This research analyzes participant roles in the animation series titled Sofia the First, specifically in Season 1, Episode 19 titled "Princess Butterfly." Utilizing Saeed's (1998) theory. The writer uses descriptive qualitative research to examine the data. There are seven datums that were found in this research. The first and second data identified experiencer and theme, the third data revealed actor, agent, and beneficiary, the fourth data showed actor, agent, and theme, the fifth data identified experiencer, while the sixth data included agent and experiencer, and the seventh data revealed agent, experiencer, and theme. The analysis focuses on the episode “Princess Butterfly” because it offers rich dialogues with clear interactions between characters, which makes it suitable for studying participant and semantic roles in detail. The storyline also provides various actions and emotions, which help identify diverse linguistic patterns. Keywords: participant roles, Sofia the First, semantic, animation, roles
