Abstract

This study explores the use of metaphors to articulate sadness in the lyrics of One Direction, particularly in the context of the emotional response from fans following the death of band member Liam Payne. This research uses the theory of köveces, the theory to express the emotion of sadness on social media platforms are included in the metaphor of sadness. The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method in this research. The findings reveal five primary metaphorical categories. Sadness is a Social Superior refer to datum 1, Sadness is a Lack of Vitality refer to datum 2,3,5, Sadness is a Fluid in a Container refer to datum 4. keyword: sadness, metaphor, lyrics
