Abstract

This study aims to examine the environmental issues depicted in the SpongeBob SquarePants series. This research uses an ecocritical perspective by Greg Garrard. Ecocriticism itself usually criticizes the relationship between humans and nature or even humans and animals. Greg Garrard gives attention to these issues in his famous book, Ecocriticism. This research method is descriptivequalitative. The data used in this thesis are visual and text. The author found that ecocriticism and environmental issues are portrayed with various ideas and ideologies hidden in the Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants. This research offers knowledge to people who are interested in this phenomenon. This was discovered after researching and analyzing the SpongeBob SquarePants series. Life in the water that looks fun and beautiful with small conflicts that are easy to understand, but in some series, there are allusions to the natural conditions in the vast ocean that are constantly changing in relation to the actual situation are also revealed by this thesis.
