Abstract

This study is aimed to explain the kinds of antonyms in English. The subject of the research is Political news about Jakarta governor election in headline news of Jakarta post from February 2017 to April 2017. The research uses a descriptive analysis qualitative research. The main theory of this research is antonyms theory of Saeed (2003). The data from this research are twenty three, which include eight data of simple antonyms, five data of gradable antonyms, three data of Reverses, one data of converses and six data of taxonomic sister. The process in analyzing the data is: (1) preparing the data, (2) analyzing the data, (3) discussing the data, and finally (4) concluding the data. The results of the research show that simple antonym emerged eight times (34,8%), gradable antonym emerged five time (21,7%), Reverses emerged three time (13,1%), converses emerged only one time (4,3%) and taxonomic sister emerged six time (26,1 %).
