Abstract

This research is aimed to explain kinds meaning polysemy of germanic suffix –er in the paper which entitled “Polysemy Analysis of Germanic Suffixes – er in the Sport Column Jakarta Post semantically”. This paper presents polysemy of germanic suffix –er meaning agent or person, member of class, inhabitant of a place, and instrument or tools in the sport column Jakarta Post. The implementation of this research is conducted from February to July 2017. This research uses the qualitative method as the procedures of the research. The method of the analysis data is as the following methods: (1) Preparation of collecting data, (2) process of collecting data, (3) sort data, (4) analyze data, and (5) drawing the data conclusion. According to the research classifying, there are 34 words containing the polysemy germanic suffix –er meaning person (83,4%), member of group (4,1%), inhabitant (4,1%), and instrument (8,4%). From the result the writer concludes that there are many polysemy words germanic suffix – er in the sport column Jakarta Post and the most founded is meaning person.
