Abstract

This study aims to determine and study the analysis of the meaning of the word metonymy in the news text of the newspaper "The Jakarta Post Online". This research method uses qualitative research methods. This study uses the theory of Griffiths (2006) about semantics and figurative language. The main theory uses the conceptual theory of metonymy mapping of word meaning by Lakoff and Johnson (2003). The findings in this study are stating that there are 50 data on the meaning of the word metonymy used in the news text of the newspaper "The Jakarta Post Online". In analyzing this metonymy by collecting data, analysis and conclusions. After understanding the steps, the result is that there are various types of metonymy in the conceptual mapping of metonymy, there are 7 types of metonymy expressions using conceptual mapping. is the most prominent form.
