Abstract

Abstract This study analyzes the speech acts in an award acceptance speech. It uses a theory to describe and explain the results. The analysis found seven speech act types, three of which were assertive, expressive, and directive. Eight data points were analyzed. Assertive utterances were the most prevalent, accounting for four cases. Expressive utterances were identified in three cases. Directive utterances occurred only once.
