Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out about the hero’s journey key stages reflected in Thomas as the main character in The Maze Runner novel trilogy and types of hero that Thomas portrayed in The Maze Runner novel trilogy. The writer used Vogler’s (2007) theory of hero’s journey stages and the theory of hero’s character types to answer the objective. This research used qualitative research. The main data object of this research taken from novel trilogies The Maze Runner, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, and The Maze Runner: The Death Cure by James Dashner. The writer used the descriptive method and used text-based material to collected the data by read and observed the sentence to analyze the data. This writer found a total 34 data for the hero’s journey stage that implemented in Thomas’s character and 8 data for the types of hero that Thomas’s portrayed in The Maze Runner novel Trilogy. The writer found that Thomas’s passed all the twelve of hero’s journey stages chronologically by Vogler’s theory. Keywords: hero’s journey, hero, character archetype, The Maze Runner
