Abstract

This study aims to analyze the shift in translation in the film Wednesday Part 1 and to find out the structure of the noun phrase. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data for this study were obtained by collecting English and Indonesian translations of the Wednesday Part 1 film subtitles which contain English noun phrases and shift translation equivalents. This study uses the theory from Catford for the category of translation shifts and the structure of noun phrases using the theory from Greenbaum and Leech. The results of the study show that, first, there are four noun phrase structures found in this translation shift, namely, 16 data on determiner + noun with a percentage of 40%, 14 data on premodifier + noun with a percentage of 35%, 9 data on determiner + pre -modifier + noun with a percentage of 22.5% and 1 data on noun + post-modifier with a percentage of 2.5%. The second data is the translation shift applied in the noun phrase structure, namely, 16 data on Structure shift with a percentage of 40%, 4 data on Class shift with a percentage of 10%, 12 data on Unit shift with a percentage of 30%, and 8 data on Intra System Shift with a percentage of 20%.
