Abstract

The aims of this research are (1) to analyze the translation method used in translating the lyrics of the song “Water Under the Bridge”. (2) to identify the types of equivalence in the translation of the lyrics of the “Water Under the Bridge” song. The theory used in this study is Hoed (2006) regarding translation methods and Nida (1982) regarding equivalence. In this study, the researcher used qualitative methods. There are 30 data collected from the song “Water Under the Bridge” lyrics on the Indolirik YouTube Channel. Five translation methods are applied in the translation from English into Indonesian: the calque method with 10 data (33.3%), the communicative method with 17 data (56.7%), the idiomatic method with 2 data (6.7%), and the adaptation method with 1 data (3.3%). The types of equivalence were formal equivalence 11 data (36.7%) and dynamic equivalence are 19 data (63.3%).
