Abstract

This study aims to analyze words to find out the types of derivational morphemes and morphological processes contained in the short story Bookstore Sisters by Alice Hoffman. The writers uses the theories of Katamba & Stonham (2006) and Kridalaksana (2010). This research method is descriptive qualitative. From the result of this research. The words found can be categorized based on the type of derivational morpheme: the first is suffixes. They have percentage 80%, with the suffixes -ly, al –ly, -full –ly, -er, -ment, -ity, -able, -y, -full and -ish. The second is prefixes. They have percentage 20%, with the prefixes Un-, Dis-, Im- Re-. The result of the morphological process can be categorized based on part of speech into eight types: the first is derivational morphemes producing adverb with the suffixes -ly by percentage is 43.3%. The second is derivational morphemes that do not change the word class, still be an adjective but only the meaning with the prefix Un-, Dis- and Im- by percentage is 15.1%. The third is derivational morphemes producing noun with the suffixes –er and –ment by percentage is 11.6%. The fourth is derivational morpheme producing adjective with the suffix –ity, -y, -full, –ish, and -able by percentage is 11.6%. The fifth is derivational morpheme producing from noun to adjective to adverb with the suffix –al –ly and –full –ly by the percentage is 6.7%. The sixth is derivational morphemes that do not change the word class, still be a verb but only the meaning with the prefix Un- and Re- by the percentage is 5%. The last is derivational morphemes that do not change the word class, still be a noun but only the meaning with the suffix -er by the percentage is 1.7%. The derivational affixes producing adverb is the most frequently appear in Bookstore Sisters short story by Alice Hoffman.
