Abstract

This study aims to find out what the word forms of endophora are and the types of references embedded in a text according to discourse science entitled "Reference of Endophora in The Strange Case of Dr. Novel. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". This research is based on the theory of Halliday and Hassan 1976 by using qualitative research methods to find and analyze problems in the data. From the data found, there are 136 words in the form of endophora references such as I, you, they, we, his, him, there, that, such, as, and equal. Then, 103 of them are anaphora endophora and 33 others are cataphora. All types of endophora in this study were used as a form of reference pronoun, either personally, demonstrative or comparative reference.
