Abstract
The aims of this study were to find the types of idioms and the translation strategies idiom in the novel “Jejak Langkah” by pramoedya Ananta Toer where the idiom translation strategies were implemented in the novel. In addition, the researcher uses a qualitative descriptive method using the theory of Abdul Chaer, and the theory of idiom translation strategies by Mona Baker. The results obtained from this study are, first (1) in the 30 idiom expression data in the novel "Jejak Langkah" and in the English version, there are 2 types of idioms in Abdul Chaer's theory. Researchers found 2 types of idioms, namely full idioms and partial idioms. Of the 30 data found, 6 are full idiom types with a percentage of 20%, while 24 of them are partial idioms with a percentage of 80%. (2) of the 4 types of idiom translation strategies found in Mona Baker's theory, the researcher found 3 types of idiom translation strategies, Translating an Idiom by Using an idiom of Similar Meaning and Form, Translating an idiom by Using an Idiom of Similar Meaning but Dissimilar Form, and Translation by paraphrase. From 30 data, 5 idiom translation strategies are included in similar meaning and form, 4 idiom translation strategy data are included in similar meaning but dissimilar form and 21 idiom translation strategy data are entered into paraphrase.
