Abstract

The aim of this research is to find types of Reference Meaning in a novel that titled “Normal People” by Sally Rooney. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The main theory of this research is reference theory from Cruse (2000). The final results of this research are: Definite Reference with Definite Determiner (33%), Definite Reference with Proper Names (17%), Definite Reference with Location Adverbs (7%), Definite Reference with Temporal Adverbs (7%), Indefinite Reference with Indefinite Determiner (20%), Indefinite Reference with Pronoun Indefinite (13%), and Generic Reference (3%).
