Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze Head - Relations of Phrase in The Prince and The Pauper Novel by Mark Twain. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. Meanwhile, the data for this study were obtained from reading the novel The Prince and The Pauper. This research applies the theory of Burton for the Head Relation and Galderen for the Phrase. The results of the research show that, first, there are five phrase found in this novel, namely, Noun Phrase (NP) appears more often that the other types with the percentage of 44%, the second Adjective Phrase (AdjP) with 12%, Verb Phrase (VP) with 24%, and Adverb Phrase (AdvP) with 8% and Prepositional Phrase (PP) with 12%. The second, there are 2 types of Head-Relation that were used in the novel. The analysis's study findings were; The Modifier-Head Relation with sixteen data and 60% percentage and The Complement-Head Relation with nine data and 40% percentage.
