Abstract
This study aims to explain the English monophthong founding the Day6 song. The subject of this research is the sound from song lyrics in the Sunrise album sing by Day6. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The main theory of this research is 1). April McMahon (2002), 2). Adam Brown (2014), 3). Lynda Yates and Beth Zielinski (2009) about phonology. The steps in analyzing data include (1). Selecting a song, (2). Listening to the songs, (3). Reading the lyrics of the song, (4). Understanding which phonemes are included in the English monophthongs in the lyrics of Day6’s song, (5). Understand and explain why the words in the lyrics of Day6’s song include English monophthongs. The result of the research, all of the English monophthongs, the researcher found 9 monophthong, 30 data was taken from 3 songs from Sunrise album by Day6. The first song produced a total of 17 data with percentage 56,7%. The second song produced a total of 7 data with percentage 23,3%. In addition, the third song produced a total of 6 data with percentage 20%.
